What is CX science?
CX science is the study of customer experience with the habits of any serious discipline: defined terms, stated methods, figures someone else can check, and claims that can be tested and corrected.
What it is
Many organizations know a great deal about their customers' experience, but they measure it in ways nobody else can check: a score that moved, a story from a focus group, a dashboard no one can rebuild. CX science asks the same questions and holds the answers to a higher bar. Every term is defined before it is used. Every figure comes with the method that produced it. Every claim says how sure it is.
The three questions it answers
- What do customers actually go through, step by step, and where does the journey break?
- What does each break cost the business, and what does fixing it return?
- What should be fixed first, and how will we know the fix worked?
What it is not
It is not a single score. Satisfaction and loyalty scores are useful signals, but on their own they cannot tell a finance director what a broken journey costs. It is not a software product either: the methods work with data an organization already holds.
How the Institute applies it
The Institute's method, IACS-7, puts a money figure on customer friction: repeat contacts, rework, escalations, credits and the customers who leave. Each figure is volume times rate times unit cost, so any line can be challenged on its own. The Institute publishes what it has tested and what it has not, and dates every correction.
